Egypt’s Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly met on Sunday with officials from AngloGold Ashanti, operator of the Sukari gold mine, to review developments at the site and discuss plans to increase production.
Madbouly highlighted ambitious targets for boosting gold output, stressing the need for close coordination between the company and all relevant government authorities to accelerate operations and achieve these goals. He affirmed his support for any measures aimed at expediting work at Sukari to serve the mutual interests of both parties.
During the meeting, the Minister of Petroleum, Karim Badawi, outlined steps the ministry is taking to support the mining sector, emphasising the government’s prioritisation of the industry and the strategic partnership with AngloGold Ashanti at Sukari, which ranks among the world’s top ten gold mines and is managed using advanced technological systems. The minister also highlighted cooperation with the company to enhance the skills of mine workers, maximising the benefit of this key national asset.
AngloGold Ashanti officials presented several areas for future collaboration with the government to further increase the mine’s productivity. The company, with over a century of global mining experience, noted the exceptional results of its investments in Egypt, crediting the strong support and commitment of Prime Minister Madbouly and Minister Badawi.
The company reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring Egypt fully benefits from the development of its gold sector by creating local job opportunities and improving the skills of workers in the industry.
