Egypt’s PM says EU–Egypt Summit culminates year of strengthened cooperation

Egyptian Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly said on Wednesday that the first-ever EU–Egypt Summit, which is kicking off in Brussels, represents “the culmination of a comprehensive strategic partnership” between Egypt and the European Union, launched in March 2024.

Chairing the weekly Cabinet meeting in Cairo, Madbouly said the summit reflects the “mutual determination” of both sides to expand political and economic cooperation, turn trade and investment into a genuine driver of development, and strengthen coordination on regional and international issues, including the Middle East and Ukraine.

He added that the summit includes an economic forum showcasing investment opportunities in Egypt, with the participation of major European companies and financial institutions — an event the government sees as a key opportunity to attract fresh European investment.

Madbouly said Egypt attaches “great importance” to the summit and expects it to generate “positive outcomes” that boost trade with the EU and support the next phase of Egypt’s structural economic reforms.

He also referred to President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s participation earlier this week in the 42nd Armed Forces Cultural Symposium, held as part of Egypt’s commemoration of the 52nd anniversary of the October War victory, where the president addressed Egypt’s diplomatic efforts to end the Gaza conflict and promote regional stability.
