Egypt’s PM, UNIDO’s representative in talks over developing industry
Representative and Director of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization’s (UNIDO) regional office in Egypt Giovanna Ceglie said that UNIDO is keen to cooperate with Cairo in supporting and developing industry.
Ceglie noted that this keenness comes in light of the importance attached by the Egyptian government to this issue and its key role in achieving development, raising the national income and increasing exports.
The official’s remarks were made during her meeting with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly in the presence of Richard Dictus, the UN Resident Coordinator and United Nations Development Program (UNDP) resident representative in Egypt.
Ceglie added that UNIDO is keen to formulate a programme with the Egyptian government to introduce this cooperation, the Cabinet’s media office said in a statement on Friday.
The PM welcomed UNIDO’s stance, asserting that the government attaches special importance to the issue of modernising industry.
Madbouly also pointed out the government’s efforts to localise industry via plans that target specific sectors, such as the engineering industries sector and textiles, among others.
