Egypt’s President Sisi to decide if he will run for second term ‘when appropriate’

President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi will make his decision on whether to run for the upcoming presidential elections, which are scheduled for early 2018, “when the time is appropriate”, the presidency spokesman said on Sunday.

“President Sisi is keen to present to the Egyptian people the efforts he has undertaken during his presidential term, after which he will decide if he will run in the 2018 presidential elections,” the spokesman told Ahram’s Arabic news website.

According to the constitution, the president of Egypt is elected using the two-round system. Election proceedings are to begin no later than 120 days before the end date of the current presidential term, which ends on 7 June 2018.

Results are to be announced no later than 30 days before the end of the current presidential term. Source: Ahram online
