Egypt’s Public Prosecution Spokesman, Mostafa Dewidar, confirmed that the International Cooperation Bureau, headed by Judge Kamel Gerges, had officially sent a memorandum to the INTERPOl, calling for referring Senior Commander Ahmed Shafiq to the court on corruption charges.
The memorandum included the wording of referring the former presidential candidate to the criminal court, issued by Judge Osama Al Saeedy, investigative judge of the ‘pilots’ housing’ case. It also included the investigations’ details that accused Shafiq and other defendants.
The spokesman asserted that there are two agreements, about fetching the escaped, signed between the Egyptian and Emirati authorities; providing for the necessity of primarily returning a verdict by the Emirati Judiciary to extradite Shafiq.
Dewidar elaborated that the Public Prosecution sent two memos to fetch the escaped Ahmed Shafiq; the first one to the INTERPOL and the second one to the concerned authorities in UAE.
