Egypt’s SCA eyes Chinese partnership to boost food security

Egypt’s Suez Canal Authority (SCA) Chairman Osama Rabie seeks to collaborate with Chinese company FAMSUN, aiming to inject new investments into enhancing food security and agricultural engineering technologies, as per a Cabinet statement.

Discussions with FAMSUN’s chairman focused on forming an economic partnership to enhance food security leveraging FAMSUN’s expertise in agricultural engineering and food security solutions.

Rabie emphasised the Suez Canal’s commitment to global collaboration, particularly in projects aligned with Egypt’s strategic goals, such as diversifying income sources and maximising the canal’s unique geographical advantages.

He also highlighted the political leadership’s full support for food security initiatives, which directly impact citizens’ lives. He pledged to provide all necessary facilitations for future cooperation.

Chen Zhengjun, FAMSUN’s chairman, underscored the deep friendship and shared values between Egypt and China, noting promising opportunities for economic collaboration, according to the statement.

FAMSUN is interested in partnering with the Suez Canal Authority due to its strategic location and resources. Zhengjun promised to deploy top experts to ensure project success, signalling a new era in Egypt’s agricultural development.

Both parties agreed to draft a comprehensive proposal outlining the proposed cooperation, including financial and technical details, to initiate joint studies for the projects, the statement added.

FAMSUN, a global leader in agricultural engineering and storage solutions, has previously collaborated on significant projects in Egypt, including the strategic grain storage complex in the New Delta region.
