Egypt’s SCZONE breaks ground on $30m chemical facility

Egypt’s General Authority of the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE) held a ground-breaking ceremony of the “Chemtics Egypt Chemicals” project, at the Chinese industrial developer TEDA-Egypt, in the Sokhna industrial zone.

The project will span 60,000 square metres with total investments of $30 million, aimed at producing over 40,000 tons of calcium hypochlorite annually.

Scheduled for implementation in two phases, the first phase is expected to commence production by May 1, 2025.

Chairman of SCZONE, Waleid Gamal El-Dien, highlighted the project’s significance in strengthening SCZONE’s reputation. He lauded Chinese investments, which now include over 160 companies with total investments of $2 billion and approximately 50,000 job opportunities.

The recent promotional tour in China led to contracts for six new projects with investments exceeding $1.067 billion across 1.2 million square meters, focusing on energy production, glass manufacturing, and fine chemicals.

The Chemtics project aims to establish Egypt as the largest producer of calcium hypochlorite in Africa.
