Egypt’s SCZONE signs $2 mln fertiliser, pesticide project in Sokhna

Egypt’s Suez Canal Economic Zone Authority (SCZONE) on Wednesday witnessed the signing of a $2 million (94 million Egyptian pounds) investment contract to establish a fertiliser, agricultural nutrients, and pesticides plant in the Sokhna Industrial Zone.

The project, to be developed by Gheras Egypt, will be built on a 15,000-square-metre site within the area managed by Main Development Company (MDC), SCZone’s industrial developer arm. According to SCZONE’s statement, the project is expected to create around 70 direct jobs. The production is scheduled to begin in early 2027, with annual output ranging between 5,000 and 7,000 tons.

SCZONE’s Chairman Waleid Gamal El-Dein said the project is part of a broader strategy to support local investments in vital sectors. “The project will help replace imported fertilisers, agricultural nutrients, and pesticides, strengthen domestic supply chains, and reduce reliance on foreign markets,” he said.

The authority provides investors with administrative, technical, and logistical support to accelerate project implementation and ensure efficient operation, Gamal El-Dein added. The project aligns with Egypt’s national industrial strategy and is expected to add value to both investors and the local community.
