Egypt’s Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE) signed on Wednesday a contract with Indorama Egypt Fertilizers to establish a new phosphate fertilizer plant in the El-Sokhna industrial area, with investments of $525 million for the first phase.
The project will be developed over an area of 522,000 square metres and will provide up to 2,500 direct jobs during operation, in addition to around 500 jobs during the construction phase.
The project aims to establish an integrated industrial complex for fertilizers and basic chemicals, with an annual production capacity of 600,000 tonnes in its first phase. Production will include phosphate fertilizers and related products such as rock phosphate, ammonia, sulphur, potash (potassium chloride), and urea, alongside specialised chemicals including zinc sulphate, boric acid or sodium borates, and sodium molybdates.
Around 80 per cent of production will be directed to export markets, supporting Egypt’s export capacity and strengthening agricultural and industrial supply chains.
