Egypt’s SCZONE signs $75m contracts for three new industrial projects in West Qantara

Egypt’s Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE) said on Monday it had signed contracts worth more than $75 million (around 3.6 billion Egyptian pounds) to establish three new industrial projects in the West Qantara Zone, with expected annual exports exceeding $100 million.

The fully financed projects, spanning 225,000 square metres, will create around 3,600 direct jobs, SCZONE said in a statement. The deals were signed with a prominent Egyptian investor representing the companies behind the projects, which include a consortium Egyptian and Chinese partners.” the statement said.

About the Projects 

The first project, valued at $28.2 million, will produce microfibre textiles and blankets on a 75,000-square-metre site, with an annual output of 21 million pieces and 8,000 tons, 70 per cent of which will be exported. It will employ about 1,250 people.

The second, worth $29.2 million, will manufacture textiles and home furnishings for export markets, producing 5.6 million pieces and 3,000 tons a year and creating about 1,150 jobs.

The third project, with $17.625 million in investments, will set up the first-of-its-kind factory in Egypt, the Middle East and Africa for electric blankets and polyester heating textiles. The plant, to be built by the world’s largest Chinese producer of electric blankets, will export its entire annual output of 5.6 million electric blankets and 3,000 tons of heating textiles. It will employ around 1,200 people.

Following the latest agreements, the number of projects in the West Qantara Industrial Zone has reached 44, with total investments of about $1.1685 billion and 60,165 direct jobs across 2.8 million square metres, said SCZONE Chairman Waleid Gamal El-Dein.
