Egypt’s Sheikh Zayed Specialised Hospital performed 1,350 complex and advanced cardiac interventions free of charge during the first half of 2025, according to Ministry of Health and Population.
The services, provided at no cost to patients, reflect the ministry’s commitment to offering Egyptians access to the latest treatment methods.
Procedures included urgent and emergency cardiac catheterisations, round-the-clock intensive cardiac care, and treatment of chronic total occlusion (CTO) of coronary arteries using catheter-based techniques — normally costing up to EGP120,000 per case.
Advanced technologies were also deployed free of charge, such as intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) catheterisation (EGP60,000 per case) and rotational atherectomy (ROTA) for calcified blockages (EGP80,000 per case).
The hospital continues to offer transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) as an alternative to open-heart surgery, with a typical cost of around EGP1 million per case, achieving world-class success rates for the seventh consecutive year.
Its cardiac unit also treats heart rhythm disorders, offering Holter monitoring, pacemaker follow-ups, and device implantation (up to EGP150,000 per case), in addition to catheter-based repair of congenital heart defects (EGP70,000 per case).
