Egypt’s Sisi, EU’s Tusk discuss illegal migration, terrorism in phone call
Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi discussed on Thursday evening the country’s efforts to combat illegal migration to Europe with Donald Tusk, European Council’s president, in a telephone call, Sisi’s spokesman said.
The pair also discussed the efforts Egypt is exerting to confront the illegal migration problem, stressing the importance of dealing with the main roots of the problem through reaching political solutions to the crises in some Middle Eastern countries, and helping to restore stability and security in those countries.
They also discussed efforts in the war on terrorism, and ways to boost Egyptian-EU relations.
Sisi’s spokesman said that Tusk expressed the EU’s appreciation of its strong relations with Egypt, asserting the EU’s wish to continue pushing cooperation with Egypt on different levels based on their shared interest in facing the challenges in the Mediterranean region.
He also praised the efforts of Egypt in fighting terrorism as well as the successful Egyptian experience in fighting illegal migration.
