Egypt’s President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi is scheduled to visit Ethiopia and Kuwait in January, presidency spokesman Alaa Youssef said in separate statements Sunday.
El-Sisi will attend the 24th African Union Summit that will open 24 January in Ethiopia, the country with which Egypt is engaged in arbitration to resolve disputes over the former’s Grand Renaissance Dam project, presently under construction.
In the Kuwait visit, scheduled to commence Monday, El-Sisi will discuss bilateral relations with Emir Sheikh Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah as well as Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
As with previous visits to countries like Italy and China, El-Sisi will also try to buck up support for an international economic summit Egypt is holding in March by meeting with Kuwaiti businessmen.
Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khalid Al-Hamad Al-Sabah promised to aid in the economic summit’s success in a statement in December.
After the ouster of former Islamist president Mohamed Morsi in 2013, Kuwait pledged $4 billion to Egypt.
