Egypt’s Sisi urges expansion of digital training programmes

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi held a high-level meeting with Prime Minister, Moustafa Madbouly, and Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Amr Talaat, to assess national efforts in training and developing professionals in telecommunications, IT, and software development. The initiative is a cornerstone of Egypt’s digital transformation strategy, aimed at boosting digital exports and driving economic growth.

The meeting focused on enhancing Egypt’s position as a global hub for digital service investments, particularly in software. A key focus was the progress of Digital Egypt Pioneers Initiative, which provides free scholarships to train young professionals across various ICT fields.

The initiative offers technical and practical training with leading companies, alongside personal development courses, including language skills. It covers specialisations including artificial intelligence, data science, cybersecurity, software development, digital networks and infrastructure, digital arts, electronic circuit design, and embedded systems.

The meeting highlighted the expansion of Digital Egypt Pioneers Initiative to cover all Egyptians, regardless of academic background, as long as they have the potential and interest in ICT careers in order to significantly boost both the quantity and quality of skilled professionals in the sector.

Sisi further emphasised the importance of transitioning to a fully digital society, supporting and increasing the number of freelancers. He also called for the expansion of digital training through applied technology schools and Digital Egypt Innovation Centres, as well as investing in young talent and providing scholarships and training programmes to meet the evolving demands of the knowledge-based economy.
