Egypt’s Sisi, US’s Trump discuss bilateral ties, regional stability
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi received a phone call from US President Donald Trump Saturday evening, during which the two leaders discussed key issues concerning bilateral relations and regional stability.
According to the official spokesperson for the Egyptian Presidency, President Sisi congratulated President Trump on his re-election, highlighting the trust he enjoys among the American people and his leadership capabilities. He also invited President Trump to visit Egypt at the earliest opportunity to strengthen strategic relations and address pressing Middle Eastern issues.
Additionally, President Sisi extended an invitation for Trump to attend the inauguration of the new Egyptian Museum. In response, President Trump invited Sisi to visit Washington for a meeting at the White House.
The conversation covered a range of bilateral, regional, and international matters, reaffirming the strong strategic partnership between Egypt and the United States. Both leaders emphasised the importance of boosting economic and investment cooperation, particularly in water security, while reiterating their shared commitment to fostering peace and stability in the Middle East.
Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy, Egypt’s Presidency spokesperson, noted that the discussion also touched on the ceasefire in Gaza. The leaders reviewed the progress of the first and second phases of the agreement, brokered by Egypt, Qatar, and the United States, which aims to stabilise the ceasefire and expedite humanitarian aid to Gaza’s residents. President Sisi underscored the necessity of achieving a lasting peace, pointing out the international community’s expectations for President Trump to secure a historic resolution to the long-standing conflict. Sisi further acknowledged Trump’s stated commitment to peace, as outlined in his inauguration speech.
Both leaders agreed to maintain close communication and coordination on issues of mutual interest. They stressed the importance of holding regular meetings between officials from both countries to advance bilateral relations and explore solutions to shared challenges, reflecting the depth of the Egyptian-American strategic partnership.
