Egypt’s Smart Green Initiative sees record participation from women entrepreneurs

The third edition of Egypt’s National Initiative for Smart Green Projects has witnessed an unprecedented surge in participation, particularly from women entrepreneurs leading innovative solutions to tackle climate change and drive the green economy forward.

According to Ambassador Hisham Badr, Assistant Minister for Strategic Partnerships, Excellence, and Initiatives, the initiative attracted 5,797 project submissions, reflecting a growing commitment to sustainability across various sectors. Among these, 1,151 projects are led by women, highlighting their increasing role in environmental innovation.

He further said on Sunday that the initiative saw diverse participation across different categories:

  • 1,150 non-profit projects
  • 1,083 startup-led projects
  • 1,053 medium-sized projects
  • 777 large-scale projects
  • 683 small local projects

The surge in applications underscores Egypt’s growing emphasis on green transformation, fostering a competitive and inclusive ecosystem for sustainable development. With climate change at the forefront of global concerns, the initiative serves as a catalyst for actionable solutions, reinforcing Egypt’s leadership in environmental innovation.

Officials expect this year’s edition to set new benchmarks in green entrepreneurship, paving the way for impactful policies and investments in the country’s sustainability sector.
