Egypt’s Suez Canal Authority (SCA) Chairman Osama Rabie inspected on Tuesday the construction of marine tugs and deep-sea fishing vessels at the South Red Sea Shipyard in Safaga, following directives from President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to develop a domestic maritime industry.
The inspection covered three passenger boats for maritime and Nile tourism, currently 70 per cent complete, six Azm-class marine tugs with 90-ton pulling capacity, and two export tugs being built for Italian firm NERI. Rabie emphasised strict adherence to quality, safety, and contractual standards.
He also reviewed the deep-sea fishing vessel Rezek 2, part of a 12-vessel modernisation programme, and discussed international marketing efforts, including tuna-fishing operations and potential collaboration with Australia.
Rabie highlighted the shipyard’s rapid growth under presidential oversight, while SCA official El-Degyeshi confirmed ongoing construction, job creation, and efforts to expand into new export markets.
