Egypt’s Suez Canal operates normally with 56 ships transiting on 3 March – chairman

Egypt’s Suez Canal is operating normally in both directions, providing full 24-hour maritime services, the waterway’s authority Chairman Osama Rabie said on Tuesday.

On Tuesday, 56 ships transited the Canal, carrying a total net tonnage of 2.6 million tons, including 24 northbound vessels with 1 million tons and 32 southbound vessels with 1.6 million tons.

“Suspensions by some major shipping lines remain temporary and hinge on developments in regional security,” Rabie said. “We continue to coordinate with clients and shipping lines to support global trade and ensure supply chains remain uninterrupted. We hope the security situation eases soon, given its critical impact on freedom of navigation in the region.”

Over the past three days, 100 vessels have passed through the Canal, transporting a total of 3.8 million tons.
