Egypt’s Supply and Internal Trade Minister Sherif Farouk met grocery and food traders on Tuesday to discuss challenges in the supply sector and measures to stabilise markets, the Cabinet said in a statement.
The meeting, held at the headquarters of the Federation of Egyptian Chambers of Commerce (FEDCOC), brought together FEDCOC Chairman Ahmed El-Wakil, Giza Chamber Chairman Osama El-Shahed, Secretary-General Alaa Ezz, and other board members.
Farouk said the ministry was committed to working with supply merchants and outlets such as Gam’eyyati to ensure basic goods remain available at fair prices. He noted that partnership with chambers of commerce and traders was key to balancing supply and demand as the government modernises the supply system.
He added that similar meetings would be held across governorates to strengthen communication with traders and accelerate solutions to market problems.
El-Wakil affirmed FEDCOC’s support for the state’s modernisation plan, calling the partnership with the ministry a model for ensuring stability and protecting consumers.
Farouk praised traders for their role in maintaining food supplies and reiterated the government’s commitment to safeguarding market discipline and commodity availability, the statement said.
