Egypt’s Supply Ministry denies false claims about Sudanese residents

Egyptian Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade on Wednesday denied circulating claims on social media attributing statements to Minister Sherif Farouk about Sudanese residents living in Egypt, calling the reports “false and baseless.”

The ministry’s media centre said the minister had not made any statements on the matter. It clarified that circulated image and accompanying text referred to a presentation delivered to the House of Representatives on 21 October, 2024, which did not address Sudanese residents and was not included in the official parliamentary record.

The media centre emphasised that the ministry and Minister Farouk “hold the Sudanese brothers and sisters living in Egypt in the highest regard,” highlighting the fraternal ties and historical relations between the two countries.

It urged media outlets and social media users to verify information before sharing and to rely only on official statements from the Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade as a trusted source.
