A “surprise train” launched by the Egyptian Railway Authority will move on Thursday morning at 7:20am from Ramses Station heading to Alexandria, Nagwa Albert, spokesperson for the Egyptian Railway Authority told Ahram Online.
However, on Wednesday morning, the Ministry of Transportation reported on their official Facebook page that the destination of the train will be a surprise. The destination will remain unknown to passengers until they arrive, adding that the train driver will be informed of the destination as the train starts to move, according to the statement.
The surprise train is part of celebrations marking the opening of the new channel of the Suez Canal.
“The destination was supposed to be unknown, but we were worried people would be worried to reserve a seat on the train for an unknown destination, so we had to announce where the train will be heading,” Albert stated.
According to Albert, booking for the surprise train opened at 2:30pm.
Albeir expects that a lot of Egyptians will book seats for the trip, stating “people will ride in 1st class and 2nd class of the Express French AC train and will only pay LE10 -20, and such a price is very cheap.”
An air-conditioned French express train heading from Cairo to Alexandria usually costs up to LE50.
