Dr. Farouk El-Okdah, Governor of Central Bank of Egypt (CBE), reviewed in his quarterly meeting with chairmen of banks in Egypt the discussions he conducted with the Egyptian president Mohamed Morsi which were focused mainly on the financial and economic situations in Egypt.
One of the chairmen said that El-Okdah affirmed that his meeting with the president was mainly on the loan that Egypt seeks to receive from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and to what extent Egypt is in need for such loan. He revealed that the negotiations with IMF will be resumed directly after New Year’s Holiday.
He called for a societal dialogue on the government’s economic reform plan concerning sales tax, property tax and subsidies.
El-Okdah affirmed that he did not resign from CBE as the current conditions necessitate that all shall work for the common good to overcome the current political and economic problems.
