Egypt’s tax authority hosts ATAF delegation to boost training cooperation

Egypt’s Tax Authority (ETA) hosted a delegation from the African Tax Administration Forum (ATAF) at its training centre in Cairo’s Maadi district, underscoring the country’s bid to position itself as a regional hub for tax expertise, the authority said on Wednesday.

ETA head Rasha Abdel-Aal said the visit highlighted Egypt’s role in developing modern tax systems and the centre’s capacity to train professionals to international standards. “The visit reflects our commitment to building strategic partnerships and preparing cadres able to meet global and regional challenges,” she said in a statement.

The ATAF delegation toured lecture halls, computer labs, a 250-seat conference room, library and on-site accommodation. Established in 1999, the centre runs about 3,000 training programmes a year, covering both tax specialisations and general skills.

Abdel-Aal said the centre, which partners with the OECD, the United Nations and the Federation of Arab Tax Experts, serves as a regional platform for knowledge-sharing.

ATAF members praised the facility’s advanced capabilities, calling it a model for training African tax professionals. Abdel-Aal said the visit marked “a new step” in cooperation between Egypt and ATAF, reinforcing efforts to promote fair and transparent tax systems that boost revenue, attract investment and support sustainable development across Africa.
