Egypt’s telecoms regulator obtains ISO certification

Egypt’s telecoms regulator, the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA) has announced on Monday it had obtained the ISO 9001-Certification of Organisational Quality Management System, in regulating telecom services in Egypt’s market.

“The Certification was granted by JAS-ANZ; one of the largest organisations of accreditation, and it comes in line with the policy of NTRA to apply the international standards of organisational management for telecom service-governance, to be adopted by licenced operators in Egypt’s market.” NTRA said in a statement.

“This step also contributes to fostering investments within a competitive, fair and polarizing environment, in accordance with international standards. It would also enhance the efficiency of telecom-service governance.”

NTRA has moved up 54 positions on the international rankings of Information and Communication Technology Regulatory Tracker of 2020, issued by the International Telecommunication Union, ITU-ICT Regulatory Tracker. It ranked 41st amongst 193 other regulators of different countries, in comparison to the 95th position back in 2019.

The Egyptian regulator has also moved up 43 positions on the international rankings of The Global System for Mobile Communications Association’s (GSMA) Mobile Money Index of 2020, to become the 36th among 90 other countries adopting this kind of services, whereas it was ranked number 79 in 2019.
