Egypt’s Transport Ministry, MSMEDA sign MoU to boost SME development

Egypt’s Ministry of Transport and the Medium, Small, and Micro Enterprise Development Agency (MSMEDA) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Wednesday to create sustainable job opportunities for young entrepreneurs through small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), particularly franchise-based projects.

The agreement aims to prepare young men and women for the labour market, encourage entrepreneurship, and facilitate the establishment of SMEs within transport sector infrastructure.

Minister El-Wazir stated that the initiative aligns with the state’s efforts to enhance employment through SME development while supporting the modernisation of Egypt’s railway, metro, road, and maritime and river transport systems. The Ministry of Transport will allocate suitable locations for franchise-based projects, including metro stations, ports, railway facilities, toll stations, BRT stops, and seaports.

Usufruct contracts will be subject to specific terms, with project structures considered temporary and relocatable if required. The ministry will also organise franchise forums to connect businesses with investment opportunities.

MSMEDA will provide financial and non-financial support, including training, marketing assistance, and technical guidance for entrepreneurs, in addition to facilitating single-window services. The agency will also conduct feasibility studies and organise franchise networking events.

The MoU sets clear performance indicators, including the number of established projects, financial services provided, and investment opportunities created. A joint committee will be formed within two weeks to oversee implementation, track progress, and resolve potential challenges.
