Egypt’s unemployment rate declines slightly in Q4 ’24

Egypt’s unemployment rate edged down to 6.7 per cent in the fourth quarter of 2024, marking a slight decline of 0.3 per cent from the previous quarter, as per a report from the Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics (CAPMAS).

CAPMAS showed in its report an increase of 2.8 per cent in the labour force, reaching 33.124 million persons compared to 32.218 million persons in the previous quarter.

This workforce is divided between urban centres around 14.502 million individuals and rural areas about 18.622 million people.

Egypt’s unemployment rate among men dropped to 3.9 per cent in the reporting quarter, down from 4.2 per cent in the previous quarter of 2024 and 4.6 per cent in the same period a year earlier, according to the report.

Meanwhile, the unemployment rate among women saw a notable decrease, reaching 16.6 per cent in the reporting quarter, compared to 18.2 per cent in the previous quarter and 17.7 per cent in the corresponding period a year earlier.
