Egypt’s weekly food exports decline 10.9% – NFSA reports

Egypt’s food exports reached 155,000 tons in the week through October 25, a 10.9 per cent decline from the previous week, the National Food Safety Authority (NFSA) reported on Sunday. This figure reflects a wide variety of over 585 fresh fruits, vegetables, and other food items.

Egypt’s vegetable export portfolio boasted 50 different varieties, with a total volume of around 32,000 tons. Sweet potatoes emerged on the top at 13,000 tons followed by beans with a total of 8,000 tons.

Last week, pomegranates were the most exported fruit with 13,000 tons, followed by mangoes and lemons at 6,000 tons each. Around 32,000 tons of 50 fruit varieties were exported, the report showed.

Egyptian food exports cater to a vast international audience. During the week of October 19-25, shipments reached 166 countries. Sudan, Saudi Arabia, Libya, and US emerged as the top destinations for this bounty of Egyptian produce.
