Egypt’s food exports reached 250,000 tons in the week ended on May 31, marking an increase of 30,000 tons compared to the previous week, the Cabinet reported on Sunday citing the National Food Safety Authority (NFSA).
The exported products included over 610 types of fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as various processed food items.
Egypt exported around 55,000 of vegetables, in which potatoes came on the top of the list of 23,000 tons, followed by onions of 22,000 tons, and beans of 5,000 tons, according to the report.
Citrus remains the top exported fruit, with 55,000 tons shipped last week. Fresh grapes followed with 25,000 tons, and strawberries with 13,000 tons. In total, 45 fruit varieties were exported, totalling about 95,000 tons.
Egypt’s top export destinations last week included the Netherlands, Saudi Arabia, Italy, and Sudan among 176 countries, the report added.
