Egypt’s Zohr gas field has increased output by 65 million cubic feet per day with the start of production from the Zohr-6 well, as part of ongoing efforts to boost field performance under the Petroleum Ministry’s strategy.
The announcement was made during the general assemblies of Petrobel and Petro Shorouk to approve results for the fiscal year 2024/2025. The meetings also reviewed plans to expand oil and gas exploration in deeper layers, supported by seismic studies, with Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi directing detailed long-term studies to unlock full production potential.
Petro Shorouk reported $569 million in investments during the year, highlighting Zohr-6 as a key milestone, confirming preparations for work on Zohr-9, and the drilling of two new development wells in the current fiscal year.
Meanwhile, Petrobel invested more than $460 million in production and exploration. Output in the Nile Delta and Sinai reached 56,000 barrels of crude oil per day (bpd), despite ageing fields in operation for up to 70 years.
The company added three new wells in Sinai, producing 4,700 bpd, and implemented a maintenance programme that improved the productivity of 96 wells by nearly 6,000 bpd. It is also studying ways to boost production from the Abu Rudeis–Sidri field in the Gulf of Suez with Italy’s Eni, while intensifying geological studies in both the Gulf of Suez and the Mediterranean.
International partners praised the success in raising Zohr’s production, noting that the progress was achieved in a safe working environment despite the expansion of activities.
