El-Sisi, AfDB chief discuss boosting development, private sector role in Africa

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met on Monday with African Development Bank (AfDB) President Akinwumi Adesina in Cairo to discuss deepening development cooperation and supporting economic growth across the continent, Egypt’s presidency said in a statement.

The talks, held in the presence of Planning Minister Rania Al-Mashat, focused on strengthening Egypt’s ties with the AfDB and expanding collaboration in key sectors such as renewable energy, infrastructure, private sector development, job creation, food and water security, energy efficiency, and digital transformation.

President El-Sisi praised Adesina’s leadership during his decade-long tenure and reaffirmed Egypt’s ongoing support for the AfDB, including its future leadership. He also commended AfDB’s role in financing sustainable development across Africa.

Adesina, in turn, thanked Egypt for its continued support and highlighted Cairo’s strategic role in advancing regional development initiatives. The officials emphasised the importance of maintaining momentum on joint projects, including those under Egypt’s NWFE Programme —a flagship national platform focused on climate and development goals.
