El-Sisi Amends Weapon Procurement Rulesa

President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi has issued a decree requiring the approval of the defence ministry for arms deals, state news agency MENA said.

Amendments were made to articles 12 and 16 of the law regarding the importation of weapons and ammunition and the amounts allowed.

The law in its old form, which mandated the approval of the interior ministry, is still in effect but with the additional requirement for permission from the defence ministry.
