Home appliances maker Electrolux said it will resume its strong presence in Egypt as soon as the situation in the country becomes more stable.
Electrolux reported halting its production last Wednesday following the Egyptian security forces’ bloody crackdown against the pro-Morsi protestors in Cairo.
The company, which has around 6000 workers in Egypt, added in a press statement that Egypt is one of the key markets in the region , noting that the decision to halt work since Wednesday is a temporary for security reasons.
The ongoing unrest witnessed in Egypt has forced the foreign companies to halt their activities last Thursday arousing concerns over the country’s aggravating economic crisis.
Since the ouster of the strongman Hosni Mubarak in 2011, Egypt has been going through declining tourism activities, soaring food prices and rising unemployment rates.
Electrolux, which seized in 2011 the Egypt’s leading company for home appliances in the Middle East and North Africa Olympic Group, said “In light of the unrest we have been reducing activities on a day to day basis. We evaluate the security situation and then decide whether people should go to work.”
The Muslim Brotherhood called for a week of protests all over Egypt, starting from Saturday against the killing of more than 100 persons in clashes between the Islamists and security forces in a way closer to chaos than even before.
