Emirates Airline announced on Friday that it has replaced paper boarding passes with mobile ones for passengers leaving from Dubai International Airport starting from May 15, to help the environment.
Passengers checking in at Terminal 3 will receive their boarding passes via email or SMS, while passengers who check in online can get their passes through Apple or Google Wallet, or the Emirates App. Passengers will also receive their baggage receipts via email or the Emirates App.
Moreover, the passengers can use their digital boarding pass throughout their flight; including at Dubai Duty Free, security procedures, and boarding the plane, as the airport staff will be scanning the QR code on the passes.
Some passengers, including those flying with babies, unaccompanied minors, individuals who need special help, those who have consecutive flights on other carriers, and all passengers flying to the US, will still need a physical boarding ticket.
Passengers still have the option to print their boarding passes, if any passenger wanted a physical pass. Passengers can print their pass in case they do not have their phone, or cannot access their digital boarding pass if their phone battery ran out, the system malfunctioned, or there is a problem with the internet connection.
