Eni announces new oil discovery in Egypt’s Western Desert
Italy’s oil and gas giant Eni announced on Tuesday that it had made new oil discovery in the South West Meleiha (SWM) concession in Egypt’s Western Desert.
Eni said the SWM-A-6X well has been successfully drilled and is connected to the production network. The well is currently on stream with a daily production of 5,000 barrels of oil per day.
It reached a total depth of 15,800 feet and hit 130 feet of net oil pay in the Paleozoic sandstones of the Dessouky Formation, according to Eni’s statement.
The SWM-A-6X well lies in the South West Meleiha development and exploration concession located in the Egyptian Western Desert, some 130 km (80.7 miles) North of the of Siwa Oasis.
The production from SWM concession began in July 2019 and in just one year ramped up to 12,000 barrels of oil per day thanks to the contribution of new discoveries.
