Italian energy giant Eni announced on Saturday that it had commenced the second phase of oil and gas production at the offshore Baleine field in Côte d’Ivoire.
The Baleine field was discovered in September 2021, with production beginning in August 2023. The second phase, initially set to begin by the end of 2024, has now been launched ahead of schedule.
With this phase, daily production is expected to reach 60,000 barrels of oil and 70 million standard cubic feet of associated gas, Eni confirmed. The company previously stated that a third phase of development could increase production to 150,000 barrels of oil per day and 200 million standard cubic feet of gas daily.
Eni has operated in Côte d’Ivoire since the 1960s through its subsidiary Agip Côte d’Ivoire.
