Eni to resume drilling at Egypt’s Zohr gas field in Dec – minister
Italian energy giant, Eni will resume drilling operations at Egypt’s Zohr gas field as the rig is expected to arrive next December, with plans to drill two new wells, Petroleum Minister Karim Badawy said on Wednesday.
Minister Badawy said the resumption of drilling at Zohr aims to increase gas production by 220 million cubic feet per day, returning to pre-suspension levels. This will contribute to strengthening Egypt’s energy security and reducing its reliance on imports, he added during a press conference with Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly.
In addition to Eni’s operations, other companies operating in Egypt’s onshore concession areas will also be initiating new drilling projects. This includes three new wells and well repair activities by Agiba company.
These developments highlight Egypt’s ongoing efforts to enhance its energy sector and secure a reliable supply of natural gas for domestic consumption and potential exports.
