Etisalathas started SIM card registrations for its customers on 17 July(Tuesday) in line with ‘My Number, My Identity’ campaign launched by the UAE’s Telecom Regulatory Authority (TRA). The process has taken off smoothly as planned.Trained and professional teams at Etisalat’s Business Centers and Outlets in the UAE will ensure a quick and easy registration for its customers. All channels and points of sales have been provided with new equipment and systems to handle the process. The customer care team is also geared to assist any customer regarding the mobile registration program.
As per the registration policy, mobile subscribers are required to bring valid and original identification documents to register. These include UAE ID or passport for UAE nationals, passport or GCC National ID for GCC nationals and UAE ID or passport along with valid residence visa for all other nationalities. Documents required for the process are the same as ones required to purchase and register a new SIM card.
Business and government customers will have to present a valid establishment card issued from the Ministry of Interior to register all their SIM cards under the establishment’s name.
Commenting on the importance of this campaign, Matthew Willsher, Chief Marketing Officer of Etisalat, said, “The mobile registration campaign by the TRA seeks to provide the necessary protection to subscribers and their privacy. Recent studies show an increase in criminal cases related to misuse of SIM cards by unauthorized people. Original card holders have had to pay the price for such misuse and criminal activity. The registration helps us maintain an accurate record of SIM card ownership in case of dispute and also helps provide legal protection to mobile SIM card holders. In addition, it letsmobile card holders easily subscribe to Etisalat’s services that normally need exclusive consent from original SIM card holders.”
