EU new car sales decline in Nov.
New car registrations in the EU dropped by 1.9 per cent in November 2024, with France leading the decline at 12.7 per cent, followed by Italy with 10.8 per cent. While Germany’s market remained stagnant at 0.5 per cent, Spain showed resilience with a 6.4 per cent increase.
Year-to-date registrations for 2024 were stable (0.4 per cent) at 9.7 million units, driven by growth in Spain (5.1 per cent) but weighed down by declines in France (3.7 per cent), Germany (0.4 per cent), and Italy (0.2 per cent).
Battery-electric vehicle (BEV) registrations fell sharply by 9.5 per cent to 130,757 units, driven by steep declines in Germany (21.8 per cent) and France (24.4 per cent). The BEV market share for November fell to 15 per cent, with year-to-date volumes 5.4 per cent lower than in 2023.
Plug-in hybrid registrations also declined, dropping 8.8 per cent, with market share decreasing to 7.6 per cent.
Petrol and diesel vehicles continued to lose ground, with petrol registrations falling by 7.8 per cent and diesel by 15.3 per cent. Meanwhile, hybrid-electric vehicles surged by 18.5 per cent, capturing a 33.2 per cent market share and surpassing petrol sales for the third consecutive month.
