The European Commission and the World Bank Group have backed Romania’s new roadmap for offshore wind energy.
Developed through the ‘Internal energy market and energy transition in Romania’ project, the roadmap outlines strategies to tap into up to 7 GW of offshore wind power capacity in the Black Sea by 2035.
The roadmap features two growth scenarios: a low-growth option, targeting 3 GW to meet 16 per cent of Romania’s electricity needs, and a high-growth option of 7 GW, covering 37 per cent.
The high-growth scenario could generate €5.3 billion ($5.9 billion) in gross value added, 3.7 times more than the low-growth scenario. The plan emphasises clearer energy strategies, streamlined permitting, and transmission upgrades.
