The euro weakened against the dollar after a report showed German factory output unexpectedly contracted this month.
The 17-member currency dropped 0.5 percent to $1.3153. It depreciated 0.9 percent to 109.29 yen.
The Swiss franc fell 0.4 percent against the dollar to 91.60 centimes and the Dollar Index climbed 0.3 percent to 79.811.
