European stock markets moved higher at the open on Tuesday, helped by gains for mining stocks. The Stoxx Europe 600 index (XX:SXXP) +0.44%rose 0.2% to 255.45, with shares of Barclays PLC (UK:BARC) +0.56% BCS +4.56% choppy, paring back a sharp opening loss to a drop of 0.3% after Chief Executive Officer Bob Diamond resigned.
The German DAX 30 index (DX:DAX) +0.48% rose 0.4% to 6,520.53, led by a 1% gain for Allianz SE (DE:ALV) +1.08% .
The French CAC 40 index (FR:PX1) +0.39% rose 0.4% to 3,252.42, and the FTSE 100 index (UK:UKX) +0.23% rose 0.3% to 5,656.44.
Among miners, shares of Rio Tinto PLC (UK:RIO) +1.72% RIO +0.79% rose over 1%.
