European shares down ahead of US inflation data
European shares experienced broad losses on Thursday as investors awaited key US inflation data.
By 6:07 ET (10:07 GMT), the pan-European STOXX 600 index had shed 0.11 per cent,, Germany’s DAX fell by 0.06 per cent, and France’s CAC 40 decreased by 0.11 per cent.
In contrast, London’s FTSE 100 saw a slight increase of 0.08 per cent,, while Spain’s IBEX 35 dropped by 0.87 per cent,.
“Markets are muted as they’re waiting to see what happens with the US CPI (consumer price index) and, more importantly, what’s happening on Saturday morning in China,” Stefan Koopman, senior market economist at Rabobank commented, referring to China’s finance ministry’s upcoming news conference on its fiscal stimulus plans.
“If we get a cooler-than-expected CPI, it won’t raise expectations of a 50-basis-point cut; I think the risk is not symmetrical on that report.” he added
