European shares rebound on Thursday

European shares recovered on Thursday, supported by strong corporate earnings and positive regional growth and employment data.

The pan-European STOXX 600 index gained 1.46 per cent by midday GMT, driven by solid GDP figures. Germany’s DAX rose 1.45 per cent, while France’s CAC 40 saw a 1.03 per cent increase. Switzerland’s SMI inched 0.46 per cent higher, and Spain’s IBEX 35 added 0.65 per cent.

The UK’s FTSE 100 also moved higher, up 0.43 per cent.

Oil prices inched higher on Thursday, though gains were capped by concerns over global demand growth and increased production levels.
