European shares slip in early Monday trade

European shares opened lower on Monday, with markets awaiting comments from ECB President Christine Lagarde.

The pan-European STOXX 600 index slipped 0.56 per cent by 4:18 ET (8:18 GMT).

Germany’s DAX fell 0.35 per cent ahead of the release of preliminary September CPI figures later in the day. France’s CAC 40 dropped 1.07 per cent, while Switzerland’s SMI edged down 0.23 per cent.

London’s FTSE 100 was also down, declining 0.23 per cent, and Spain’s IBEX 35 dipped 0.14 per cent.
