European shares surge as euro-area inflation eases below ECB target

European shares showed a mixed performance on Tuesday following the release of euro area inflation data.

Euro area inflation fell to 1.8 per cent in September 2024, below the European Central Bank’s (ECB) 2 per cent target for the first time since 2021.

By 7:32 ET (11:32 GMT), the pan-European STOXX 600 index had risen 0.16 per cent. Germany’s DAX gained 0.35 per cent, while France’s CAC 40 slipped 0.02 per cent. Switzerland’s SMI saw a modest increase of 0.45 per cent.

In London, the FTSE 100 climbed 0.50 per cent, whereas Spain’s IBEX 35 fell by 0.49 per cent.
