European stocks close broadly lower

European broad STOXX 600 share index inched down 2.1 per cent at the end of trade on Monday, having recovered somewhat from its earlier lows. Britain’s FTSE 100 lost 2 per cent, France’s CAC40 shed 1.4 per cent, and Germany’s Dax dropped 1.8 per cent.
