European stocks slide amid budget concerns, tariff fears

European stock markets declined on Wednesday, weighed down by investor concerns over a new government budget and ongoing fears about the potential impact of Donald Trump’s proposed tariffs.

The pan-European STOXX 600 index fell by 1.04 per cent by 6:16 AM ET, with major indices across the region facing losses.

Germany’s DAX dropped 0.64 per cent following data showing a decline in consumer sentiment, while France’s CAC 40 fell 1.33 per cent after a report on negative consumer confidence.

Spain’s IBEX 35 slid 1.05 per cent, though the UK’s FTSE 100 managed a slight gain of 0.05 per cent. The automobile sector remained under pressure due to tariff concerns, contributing to the broader market decline.
