FAO awards Egypt’s Sisi with Agricola Medal for food security efforts

Egyptian Prime Minster Moustafa Madbouly collected the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation’s (FAO) highest honour Agricola Medal, on behalf of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.

The award recognises Sisi’s efforts to promote food security, combat hunger, and provide humanitarian assistance to neighbouring countries grappling with severe crises, the Egyptian Cabinet said in a statement on Tuesday following Madbouly’s meeting with FAO Director-General Qu Dongyu in Cairo.

Speaking at the government headquarters in the New Administrative Capital, Madbouly expressed the President’s gratitude for the recognition and emphasised Egypt’s commitment to deepening its partnership with the FAO.

Qu praised Egypt’s leadership in addressing regional food challenges and highlighted the importance of continued collaboration between the FAO and the Egyptian government. He noted that the Agricola Medal is traditionally awarded to heads of state and global leaders in recognition of their contributions to the FAO’s mission.

The ceremony was attended by Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Atty, Minister of Agriculture Alaa Farouk, and FAO Executive Council Chair Mina Rizk.
