The Regional Office for Near East and North Africa of the United Nations’ FAO will be signing Sunday, March 22, 2015 in Cairo an agreement on cooperation with the International Centre for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA).
The agreement aims to improve the agricultural production and field irrigation system in the desert areas.
Abdel-Salam Weld Ahmed – Food & Agriculture Organization (FAO)’s Regional Representativ; and Mahmoud Solh – Director General of ICARDA – will sign the agreement on Sunday.
The agreement includes exchanging the expertise from both sides in field of enhancing crops and seeds production as well as farm irrigation system irrigation system in desert lands, notably in the Arab region. In the Arab world, desert consists 80% of total area.
In addition, the agreement shall also include mutual business visits to the villages and remote areas that benefit from FAO and ICARDA programmes, conferences, workshops, and symposiums on methods to face and solve agricultural challenges in the Arab region.
