Finland probes illegal whale meat imports from Norway

Finland’s customs authorities are investigating the illegal import of 36,000 kilograms (79,366 pounds) of minke whale meat from Norway, a prohibited item under international and Finnish regulations.

The meat, intended as food for sled dogs, violates the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES).

Five individuals have been questioned in connection with aggravated nature conservation and customs clearance offenses. Finnish prosecutors are currently considering charges in the case.
